At the former site of the Fuchang Tea House on Yangloudong Ancient Street, Aili, a young Russian blogger, gazed at the courtyard blending Eastern and Western design and the angel fountain sculpture, unable to hide her surprise: “It’s incredible that Russian merchants were already coming to Chibi back then to do business and open tea houses.”More than a hundred years ago, this was known as the “world’s foremost ancient tea town,” and the arrival of Russian traders helped usher in the early days of China’s modern tea industry.
