Tests on 21 randomly purchased jewelry items found that 17 failed to meet standards for gold and silver plating thickness. One “silver-plated” bracelet had a coating of only 0.24 micrometers, far below the required 2 micrometers, while a “gold-plated” bracelet measured just 0.03 micrometers, significantly under the 0.5-micrometer standard.
