Hungarian writer Laszlo Krasznahorkai has been awarded the 2025 Nobel Prize in Literature, becoming the second Hungarian author ever to receive the honor, the Swedish Academy announced on Thursday.
Krasznahorkai was recognized "for his compelling and visionary oeuvre that, in the midst of apocalyptic terror, reaffirms the power of art", the academy said in a statement.

Yu Zemin, Chinese translator of Krasznahorkai's Satantango, revealed the author frequently consumed Chinese food, listened to Beijing opera, and consistently referenced China in conversations. The writer particularly valued ancient Chinese philosophy, repeatedly studying Tao Te Ching which he considered "ultimate wisdom". He held deep fascination for Chinese culture, according to his friend and translator. He not only calls China "the only remaining humanistic museum in the world", listens to Peking Opera and tastes Chinese food, but also asks his whole family to switch to using chopsticks after returning home.

Born in 1954 in the small town of Gyula in southeastern Hungary near the Romanian border, Krasznahorkai achieved his literary breakthrough with his debut novel Satantango. The book became a sensation in Hungary and established him as one of Central Europe's most distinctive literary voices.
Krasznahorkai is known for his dystopian, melancholic novels, which have won numerous prizes, including the 2015 International Booker Prize.
今年71岁的拉斯洛是匈牙利当代重要的作家之一,1954年生于匈牙利贝凯什州,1985年出版首作——长篇小说《撒旦探戈》,1986年出版短篇小说集《仁慈的关系》,1987年移居德国柏林,1989年出版长篇小说《反抗的忧郁》,该小说于1993年获得德国年度文学作品奖。2004年,拉斯洛获得匈牙利重要的文学奖项科苏特奖,2015年被授予国际布克奖。

This year, People's Literature Publishing House released Laszlo Krasznahorkai's The World Goes On, a collection of twenty-one short stories, which includes a piece titled Nine Dragon Crossing that was inspired by a pillar in Shanghai. This pillar, adorned with coiling dragon patterns, is a prominent feature on the Middle Yan'an Road and is enshrined in local legend.
